Community Economic Development
The BC Community
Futures Network has historically played
an instrumental
role in facilitating community economic
adjustment
initiatives across the province. Since 2000
Community Futures
British Columbia has delivered over
$125 million in
programming designed to assist rural
communities to
adjust to economic changes or hardship and diversify their economies away
from dependence on a single industry.
Strategic investments have targeted a wide range of
economic activities, capitalizing on local opportunities in the areas of:
community capacity building; innovative uses for value-added wood; new
opportunities in manufacturing, technology, film and sport; tourism; and
local economic infrastructure developments.
At Community Futures North Fraser, we:
· Focus
on building local capacity;
· Assist
with business development;
· Practice
and promote community economic development and
Community Economic Adjustment Initiatives;
· Facilitate
bringing together diverse groups to develop a locally
driven vision for their future and integrate community resources
into a long-term
sustainable strategy;
· Work
with communities to assess local problems and establish
objectives, as well as plan and implement strategies to develop
human institutional and physical infrastructures, entrepreneurship,
employment and the economy; and
· Provide
access to a variety of program funding, partnership in-kind support and
development, specific focus committees and taskforces charged with addressing
the business and network needs of the community.
